Following the success of last year’s Third Form play, Scheherezade, expectations were high when, as the Fourth Form, the children took to the stage again. The BFG posed a different kind of challenge to the year group; there were no songs or dancing, and the focus was instead on telling the story, with a lot of comedic moments peppering the performance.  The cast stepped up and produced a performance which was highly amusing and entertaining for all of the audience. On 14 January 2016, St John’s was delighted to welcome former Archbishop of Canterbury, Master of Magdalene College, Lord Rowan Williams. Lord Williams visited the school as part of the Third Form’s ‘Wonder Afternoons’, comprising of a series of prominent speakers. Lord Williams spoke eloquently with an audience of Third and Sixth Form pupils and staff and focused on the attributes of a good citizen, arguing that these replicated the virtues of a good person and that thinking about good personhood was central to all education.  The former Archbishop of Canterbury patiently answered

The Choristers embarked on a pre-Christmas tour of the Netherlands with the St John’s College Choir and performed five concerts in five venues in six days. Based in Utrecht, the Choristers also took time to sample the local cuisine and delve into the Dutch culture. Their first stop was to Burgwal, Delft, ready for their inaugural concert at the beautiful Maria van Jesse Kirk on 15 December. The Kirk was a huge venue with a grand altar and organs.
