This year’s dramatic offering from Form 1, Tuishi Pamoja, was by all accounts a delight from start to finish. Full of heart-warming moments, the show promoted the message of acceptance and friendship towards all, regardless of their differences; an important lesson for all. Form 1’s annual DT Puppet Making event returned this year with an even bigger explosion of felt, fur, sequins and other embellishments. The New Room was transformed into a textiles and construction workshop as the children brought their characters to life and learnt how to make a working rod puppet. During the workshop, Head of DT, Miss Laura Kohler, used her own handmade puppet magicians, princesses and monsters to show how each character can be created from a simple recycled milk bottle. Two St John’s Year 8 musicians recently had the opportunity to take part in a masterclass with internationally acclaimed pianist Mr Peter Donohoe CBE, at The Leys School. Mr Donohoe has built a world-wide career over forty years, encompassing a wide repertoire. He was the Silver Medal winner of the 1982 7th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.  Mr Donohoe was also awarded a CBE for services to music in the 2010 New Year’s Honours List. In an evening concert at The Leys on the same day, he performed works by Mozart, Schumann, Scriabin, Chopin and Liszt, to rapturous applause

Form Four presented ‘Three Greek Plays: An evening of Tragedy, Comedy and Temptation’. Each of the plays combined the scripts with music and dance developed in music lessons, to provide a brilliant set of plays. Form 4M performed ‘Pandora’s Box’, a play exploring temptation and human weaknesses. Pandora and her new husband, Epimetheus, are gifted a box from the God Zeus but they’re instructed not to open it. Epimetheus is very clear with his wife that she should comply with Zeus’ wishes; however she caves to temptation when the box starts to speak to her. The box created by students
