On Thursday 15 September the whole of Form 6 spent the afternoon at the Imperial War Museum Duxford as part of their combined Art and English studies on World War One. Duxford is set within the spacious grounds of the famous former First and Second World War airfield and the trip allowed the children the time to wander through the hangars, which contain many of the world’s most iconic aircraft.

St John’s teacher, Miss Kathryn Loveys, broke swimming records at the World Master Championships in Budapest in the summer. Miss Loveys is now the World Champion in the 50m Breaststroke in the age group 30-34, setting a British record time in her age group.
In total Miss Loveys came away with three medals at the championships in Budapest, achieving an incredible gold in the 50m Breaststroke, silver in the 100m Breaststroke and bronze in the 200m breaststroke.

Form 2 enjoyed a fun day getting to know each other on the St John’s playing fields at the end of their first week of term. The children were involved in a variety of team building activities and had to utilise their communication skills to work effectively as a team. The children in all three of the Form 2 classes were put into mixed groups, enabling new friendships to form whether they were new to the school or not.

St John’s College Choir released their latest recording, ‘Kyrie’ on Friday 15 September 2017. The recording features major works from three European composers: Francis Poulenc Mass in G, Zoltán Kodály Missa Brevis and Leoš Janáček Otčenáš. ‘Kyrie’ is the fourth disc on the ‘St John’s Cambridge’ label in collaboration with Signum Records.

The Byron House New Room was transformed over the summer into a brand new library for all children to enjoy from Kindergarten to Form 2. This light, spacious room now has fitted light beech shelving units around the walls which curve to add to the aesthetics of the space. New colourful rugs and large comfy cushions also add a homely feel.
The library specialist architect Mr Jack van Gorder from ‘Finnmade’ was involved in providing plans for the bespoke library fittings. The work was carried out over the summer holidays and the library now includes tilted shelves and space for more
