Association Day 2022

On 11th July, we welcomed over 150 St John’s College School alumni and past parents back for our Association Day 2022 celebrations on a beautifully sunny summer’s day. This was the largest group of Association members we have had returning for this much-anticipated event and it was clear that there was a real energy and enthusiasm to reconnect with peers and have a chance to come together as an extended school community.

Reunions were not limited to just last year’s Leavers; the afternoon saw over 80 past pupils representing each of the previous 8 years reconnecting and catching-up. The afternoon was held on the St John’s Playing Fields and the school’s catering team, lead by Mr Richard Goldby, organised a barbecue lunch under the trees by the pavilion. Guests had been invited to bring their own rugs and chairs for this informal lunch and many mingled between friendship groups, enjoying the chance to reminisce and share news.

To continue with the relaxed style to the event, mixed sports of softball cricket and tennis were on offer for those who wanted to play. There was also an opportunity to return to Senior House and have an informal tour as a chance to share memories. Many of our current pupils were delighted to see so many Leavers and made the most of the opportunity to talk with them to find out what they have been doing since leaving St John’s.

Headmaster, Mr Chippington, and many Byron House and Senior House staff attended the event, much to the delight of recent Leavers who were keen to let their former teachers know some of their highlights since leaving the school. Association Day finished with afternoon tea, complete with an array of cakes, fruit, sandwiches and brownies.  We look forward to hosting many more events for alumni and their parents in the future.
