Form 5 Bugsy Malone Production 2022

Hinsley Hall turned into the ‘liveliest joint in town’ as Alan Parker’s world famous musical Bugsy Malone took to the stage with Form 5’s production at the end of term. The children donned moustaches and armed themselves with cream-pies and splurge guns for their knock-out performances with one parent commenting, ‘We were also terribly impressed by how slick the whole show was with such a large number of children constantly moving on and off stage; it all seemed completely flawless and stylish.’

Set in 1920s, the production featured Dandy Dan and Fat Sam’s gangs battling it out for control of the East side during the Prohibition era in New York. The show sees smooth city-slicker Bugsy Malone trying to put an end to the rivalry. From the auditions back in September, the enthusiastic and talented year group have given up their time to prepare for the performances not just to improve their acting but also including complicated choreographed dance routines, learning how to be an efficient stage manager, controlling the lighting and learning the songs as well.

Head of Drama, Mr Tim Clarke, commented, ‘The whole process has been a delight for everyone involved. For me the challenge is to make the action flow, much like a film. It moves with pace from location to location, and much of the rehearsal has been focused on attempting to get an effortless and cool style of storytelling with an action that is continuous. All credit must go to the children, not only on the stage but also to those working hard behind the scenes to help realise the vision and bring the onstage story to life.’
