St John’s College Choir Christmas Tour to Germany and France

The Choristers embarked on a festive tour to Germany and France with the St John’s College Choir, following two concerts in the UK at St John's College Chapel and Cadogan Hall, London. The Choir’s repertoire included many traditional favourites from the English Choral Tradition, as well as many contemporary works containing music commissioned by St John's. Tracks from the Choir’s most recent recording, Christmas with St John's featured prominently.

Their first stop was Wittenberg in Germany, ready for their inaugural concert at the beautiful Schlosskirche on 14 December. The concert formed part of the 500th anniversary celebrations for the posting of Martin Luther's Ninety-Five Theses, the event that began the Protestant Reformation at this location. The Choir also performed at The Stiftskirch in Stuttgart and the boys made time out of their busy schedule to visit the Porsche Museum too.  The next stop was at the abbey church of Dom St Blasien which was surrounded by the woodland of the southern Black Forest in Germany.
The Choir set off to Weingarten, a German town steeped with a rich religious and educational heritage, for the penultimate concert of the tour at the Kultur und Kongresszentrum. In between the five scheduled concerts, the boys also had plenty of time to play football and have some fun. The Grand Theatre concert in Aix en Provence in France on 20 December marked the end of this hugely successful tour.
