The school day finishes for children in the Pre-Prep at 3:15pm. Children in Forms KG to T2 are able to stay on after the end of the school day for ‘Byron House Waiters’, i.e. supervised care, from 3:15-4pm and separately from 4-5:30pm, Monday to Friday.
3:15-4:00pm
Byron House Waiters from 3:15 – 4:00pm takes place in the children’s classrooms. We are usually able to accommodate all requests. If you have not heard from us please assume that your request has been recorded successfully. In the event that we are oversubscribed, we will inform you and in that case priority will first be given to those children with older siblings being collected at 4.00pm, then to those who travel home with older St John’s pupils (for these places, to ease traffic congestion, priority will be given to those who live some distance from Cambridge and for groups of children who travel together). Members of the school staff supervise the children. There is no charge for this facility if your child has an older sibling currently in Forms 1-6. There is a charge for this facility for all children who do not fall into this category (please consult the Fees Schedule* for the current rate) and parents may book a place before the beginning of each term. Children in Byron House Waiters 3.15-4.00pm will also receive a snack.
4:00-5:30pm
Places in Byron House Waiters from 4:00 – 5:30pm takes place in Cockcroft Hall and places are limited to a maximum of 25 per day. Members of the school staff supervise the children. There is a half-hourly charge for this facility for all children (please consult the Fees Schedule* for the current rate) and parents may book a place before the beginning of each term. Children in Byron House Waiters 4:00-5:30pm will receive a second snack.
It is possible to request a place in Byron House Waiters on a casual basis if a place is available on the day. Please contact the Byron House Secretary (bhoffice@sjcs.co.uk or 01223 353817) by 10am on the day in question if you wish to do so and specify your planned collection time.
Please note that bookings from the previous term do not automatically carry over. If your child has had a place in the previous term and you wish for them to continue to stay after school in the following term, please complete the online reply form. An invitation to do so will be sent to you via the Portal.
