Sports Day and Pre-Prep Sports Day were wonderful celebrations of sport, teamwork and community spirit, with pupils from Reception to Year 8 enjoying everything from Pre-Prep races to record-breaking senior performances. Highlights included The Great Race, the Leavers' Tug of War and the fantastic support shown by pupils, families and staff throughout the day. While trophies and records were celebrated, it was the friendship, encouragement and memories that made the day truly special.
Our Year 8 leavers were celebrated with a series of special events marking the end of their St John's journey. A highlight was the guard of honour created by younger pupils, who applauded them as they walked through the school one final time. The celebrations concluded with a Leavers' Ball in Byron House, where many began their St John's adventure nine years ago. While they may be moving on, the message remains the same: once St John's, always St John's.
West Road Concert Hall was filled with music, energy and applause as around 140 St John’s pupils took to the stage for the school’s annual Summer Concert, delivering an evening of exceptional performances across a remarkable range of musical genres.
Our Choristers enjoyed a wonderful and enriching tour to Sweden and Denmark over Easter, combining high‑quality music making with cultural discovery, friendship and shared adventures.
Form 3 performed a comical version of 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' at the start of the summer term.
St John’s was delighted to host a truly memorable fundraising dinner, which has already raised an impressive £35,000 and rising. The evening brought together friends of the school, former staff, current and past parents, and alumni for a wonderful occasion of celebration, connection and generosity.
And the word that comes back to me, again and again, is love.
Form 5 pupils stepped into the world of Gilbert and Sullivan as they took on the time‑honoured classic 'The Pirates of Penzance Jr.' The production brought together weeks of commitment, creativity and teamwork. From the first table‑read to the final moments on stage, the children threw themselves wholeheartedly into the joyful absurdity of the narrative, delighting in the energetic songs and the wonderfully madcap humour that runs throughout the piece.
This year’s SJCS ski trip to La Thuile, set in the stunning Aosta Valley in Italy, became an experience that extended far beyond skiing alone. Throughout the week, pupils from different year groups demonstrated a remarkable sense of confidence, kindness and team spirit as they embraced both the challenges of the slopes and the rewards of travelling together as a school community.
Our annual Passion Play took place on the final day of term. It is a well-established tradition at St John's and each year the Sixth Form approach this rite of passage with commitment and a genuine desire to do justice to the story, both individually and as an ensemble.
In the final week of the Lent term we were delighted to welcome pupils, staff and parents from Haileybury for our annual Jazz Evening, a much‑loved celebration of musical talent, collaboration and the joy of live performance. The event brought both school communities together in a vibrant atmosphere of shared enthusiasm, and it set the stage for a night filled with energy, creativity and exceptional musicianship.
