Eleven members of staff completed the Cambridge Half Marathon on Sunday 8 March. Headmaster, Mr Neil Chippington, explained, “This was an amazing feat and the team effort, as well as individual successes, are part of what make working at St John's College School such a joy and privilege.” This is the second year in a row that the school staff have taken part and raised money for Humanitas and the school in Ayensuako, Ghana. There is still time to donate (https://www.justgiving.com/SJCSHumanitas). Form 1 teacher, Miss Dempster, said, “Running the Cambridge Half Marathon with the St John’s team was great fun. I loved seeing so many St John’s supporters in the crowd and they really encouraged me to keep going when the race was getting tough! I enjoyed running as part of a team and I achieved a new PB too so it was a great day all round!”. In the St John's team, the front runners finished with impressive time results: Mr Igglesden with a time of 1:20, closely followed by Mr Millward at 1:25, Mrs Gill at 1:34 and Mr Cliverd at 1:37.
The 2020 Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon took the runners through two iconic Cambridge University Colleges – King’s and Jesus. The brand-new route gave runners unprecedented access to both colleges, as well as passing familiar sights of the city centre including the Round Church, Fitzwilliam Museum and The Backs. Since the inaugural event in 2012, the Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon has established itself as one of the UK’s biggest closed-road Half Marathons. This year's event saw 10,000 runners take to the streets to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for charities. In 2020 the official charities include Cancer Research UK, Alzheimer’s Research UK, the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust, Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre, and Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and South Lincolnshire Mind.
