St John's Staff raise money for Humanitas at Cambridge Half Marathon

On 17 October 12 members of staff ran in 10th edition of the Cambridge Half Marathon which consisted of a route of 13 miles taking in the most iconic landmarks in the city, including some of the University Colleges, the Bridge of Sighs, Cambridge University's Botanic Gardens, Grantchester's Orchard Tea Rooms and finishing at Midsummer Common. Assistant Director of Sport, Mr David Millward, enthused, 'Conditions were favourable and there were many impressive performances, including a number of personal best times! The support on the course was fantastic and the runners would like to thank all of the pupils and parents who cheered them on.' The team also entered the Business Challenge and came first in the Female and Mixed Teams respectively. The Female Team (Miss Emma Owens, Miss Isabella Lewis, Miss Sarah Bailey and Miss Kimberley Dempster) had a total time of 7 hours and 13 minutes and the Mixed Team (Mr David Millward, Mr Ben Clilverd, Miss Emma Owens and Mr Tristan Igglesden) had a total time of 5 hours and 51 seconds.

St John's has supported the Humanitas Ayensuako project in Ghana since 2015 and has helped in the building of a primary and secondary school which caters for 235 children, providing them with full-time education, and a chance to break the cycle of poverty in their community.
