A dedicated, well-qualified and inspirational Head of Science is required to lead this established department from September 2018. The post is full time, leading the teaching of Science throughout the school in the 4-13 age range.

In a University town famed for its Science, this is an exceptional opportunity to inspire children to enjoy and be challenged by Science within and beyond school hours. An outstanding teacher is needed to lead the department’s continuing development and manage the teaching of science throughout the school. The successful candidate will produce the best possible results in examinations, extending and challenging the most able children, who will gain academic scholarships, and supporting those who will need support and care to pass their Common Entrance exams. At the same time, he or she will inspire a love of Science and foster scientific thinking and independent learning within the curriculum and beyond, through clubs, events and trips, through liaison with university faculties and engagement in e.g. the University’s Science Week.

All teachers will wish to play a full part in the life of the school, including contributing to both the pastoral care and tutoring system and the wide range of extra-curricular activities. Although not residential, accommodation may be available for candidates wishing to contribute to the care of choristers and boarders.

St John’s College School is an independent co-educational school with 460 children aged 4-13, which has long enjoyed a national reputation for the exceptional quality of education and care it provides. 

The successful candidate will hold QTS status, and have a good honours degree and a PGCE in an appropriate discipline, together with a successful teaching record in the relevant age group.
