Following the Parents’ Association’s successful Virtual Cake Bake competition last year during the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's PA’s Macmillan Coffee Morning took place in Whitfield House, the school’s Boarding House, on 24 September and £1,150 was raised for the charity through generous donations and a raffle.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event, where the charity asks people across the UK to hold a coffee morning and raise money for people living with cancer. The event is central to the charity's fundraising programme, raising a staggering total of over £290 million since its inception, with over £10 million raised in 2020.

Around 60 parents and staff took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy ‘in-person’ coffee and home-baked cakes in the relaxed environment of the Boarding House kitchen, recreation room and garden. Chair of the PA, Nicole Holmes, remarked, "Following the turmoil of 2020 and umpteen virtual events, it was fantastic to welcome parents back, in-person, to our first PA event of the school year.  We were lucky enough to have been given a very warm welcome by Boarding Housemaster, Mr Glitherow, and his team, who bravely let us take over the ground floor of the Boarding House for the morning.  As always we were also very kindly supported by Richard Goldby and the catering team.  The PA committee is hugely grateful to all the wonderfully talented bakers and the extremely generous and, happily, hungry attendees who enabled us to donate such a significant sum to this extremely worthwhile cause."
