This year’s Harvest Festival at St John’s was a vibrant expression of generosity, creativity, and shared purpose. As part of our annual appeal, families were once again invited to donate non-perishable items to support the Cambridge City Foodbank and the response was extraordinary. Crates overflowed with contributions, lovingly packed by both our Byron House and Senior House Charities Committee, who worked tirelessly to sort and stack the donations ready for distribution across East Anglia.
Donations like these make a real difference. They help us support families facing food insecurity and bring hope to those in crisis.
At Senior House, pupils created a stunning rainbow display of produce, turning the front of the stage into a powerful symbol of unity and care. House Points were awarded to all competition winners and those who contributed to the foodbank, recognising both creativity and kindness.
Harvest is a chance to remind our children that giving is an act of compassion. When they see their efforts helping others, they understand the true meaning of community.
Our much-loved Harvest Competitions brought colour and imagination to every corner of the school. At Senior House, children entered categories including art, photography, Lego, and cookery, while Byron House celebrated vegetable classes, sunflowers, art, photography, and Lego creations. Judging was no easy task, with entries ranging from weirdly-shaped vegetables to Einstein Potato Heads and there was even a scarecrow looking over proceedings at Senior House!
Winners received certificates in Assembly or during Harvest celebrations, and the atmosphere was one of pride, joy, and collective generosity. Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Harvest Festival so memorable and so meaningful.
I really enjoyed choosing the perfect courgette for the vegetable category as it had the best stripes! It was fun seeing everyone’s entries and knowing our donations will help people too.
