I really enjoyed the whole thing and they made it all so realistic that I didn't want it to end!

The day offered pupils a unique opportunity to experience Shakespeare’s timeless tale in a lively and accessible way. Throughout the performance, the children were invited to take part playing minor characters, answering questions about the story and Shakespeare himself, and even helping to create the vibrant atmosphere of Verona.

Four professional actors from The Young Shakespeare Company performed Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy in a fast-paced, fully costumed, and highly engaging production. The play unfolded around and among the children, drawing them into key scenes such as the dramatic clashes between the Capulets and Montagues.

It’s such a tragic story and the look of horror in Juliet’s eyes when she saw what Romeo had done to himself was unforgettable.

Pupils were captivated from start to finish, exploring the motivations and emotions of the characters through a range of interactive activities. Some volunteered to take on individual roles, while others joined in speaking short excerpts of Shakespeare’s original text, helping to make his language come alive.

The actors regularly stepped out of character to guide discussion and ensure everyone followed the abridged plot, creating a rich learning experience that deepened pupils’ understanding and enjoyment of Shakespeare’s work.

It was a memorable and dynamic day that brought the world of Shakespeare to life for our Senior House pupils.
